Competitive Program
The Latshmere Swim Team provides instruction and training for all levels of swimming. Proper stroke technique, training principles, and teamwork are program hallmarks. Practices are scheduled during the morning and evening and involve both dry-land exercises and swimming for a majority of the swimmers. This program stresses the competitive strokes of swimming and is not a learn to swim program.
The Team is led by some of the
most dedicated coaches in the Harrisburg area. Their extensive knowledge and
experience is only surpassed by their commitment to the sport and the positive
impact it has on the development of our youth. Whether a novice swimmer or
consummate competitor, a Latshmere swimmer will benefit from the individualized
attention provided by this coaching staff.
The coaching philosophy is based on personal motivation and teamwork. The
coaches place heavy emphasis on technique and efficiency and swimmers are
encouraged to perform at their optimal level. Coaches spend a considerable
amount of time focused on stroke technique, both wet and dry-land conditioning
and development of personal work habits. Instruction and motivation are also
provided on goal setting, self discipline, and sportsmanship.
The less experienced swimmers are given just as much recognition and individual
attention as the seasoned veterans. For younger swimmers, the coaches try to
find the right balance between instruction and play to maintain enthusiasm for
the sport. A family atmosphere that fosters teambuilding and continual
self-improvement is part of everyday life at Latshmere.

“A good teammate is excited and supportive regardless of
the outcome. Trying to lead by example and always being positive in all
situations is one of the most important parts of being on a team.”
