Overview Page

00:01

In this video we'll go through a checklist to ensure a smooth recording process in Riverside. The first thing you want to do is find a quiet room to record in you could have the most expensive microphone in the world but if you're in a noisy room it's not going to sound good. Make sure to turn off any fans AC units or heaters that might make ambient noise in the background and also make sure that there's nobody else walking around in the background and making noise. For the highest quality recording use an External microphone. If you don't have a usb microphone or a professional microphone with an audio interface, you can also use regular headphones or even earbuds with the built-in microphone.

Now we recommend using the wired version over bluetooth for a little bit higher quality recording and of course you can use the integrated microphone on your laptop or desktop but if you are using an external microphone make sure to choose the right one in the riverside settings you should also be using headphones or earbuds to prevent feedback and echo. When you enter the green room, you'll be prompted to select whether or not you're using headphones.

If you select I'm not using headphones, Riverside will automatically turn on echo cancellation and if you select that I am using headphones then the echo cancellation will be turned off. if you or your guests don't have headphones you can also turn on echo cancellation in the riverside settings just know that using echo cancellation will impact the quality of the recording so we always recommend just using headphones next go and check your internet stability using an ethernet cable is always preferred over using wifi however you can go and do a speed test to make sure you're up to par.

01:35

We always recommend a minimum of 5 megabits per second for recording smoothly in Riverside. Next, close all applications that you're not going to be using during the recording because recording can be cpu intensive. It's best to just close all other apps before recording. Make sure to close all apps like email clients chat apps and video conferencing tools and pause syncing for cloud storage apps like dropbox or google drive. If you're using a vpn, you might want to pause it while you're recording because it can sometimes slow down your internet speed.

Next, it's a good idea to turn off notifications turn on do not disturb on all of your devices so notification sounds don't get picked up by your mic. Next, make sure you have enough storage space on your device before recording. We recommend having at least two to five gigabytes of free storage space on your computer. Before you hit record, make sure all participants tune in from a computer with a google chrome browser that's up to date. It's best to quit chrome if you already have it open and start fresh close all other open tabs on your browser and only have riverside open when recording.

If your guests want to join from their phones, they can also use the Riverside iOS app once you're on riverside make sure you and your guests have given chrome access to use micro camera. If you're planning on doing any screen sharing, make sure you also give that access as well. If you're having any issues during setup or recording, we recommend just rebooting your browser and in some cases restarting your whole computer can help as well. So that's it for this checklist for a smooth recording process in Riverside. For more information or additional help, go over to riverside.fm/support.
